Privacy policy

The short version: no cookies, no analytics, no ads, no tracking pixels. The Readiness Check runs in your browser. We only get your email address if you type it in, and we only email you after you confirm.

1. Who is responsible

Johannes Lortz (Wick & Watt)
c/o IP-Management #12363, Ludwig-Erhard-Str. 18, 20459 Hamburg, Germany
Email: hello@wickandwatt.com

This is the controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We are not required to appoint a data protection officer.

2. Visiting this website

When you open a page, your browser sends technical data to our web server: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and browser and operating system. This is needed to deliver the page and keep the server secure. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in running a secure website).

Our host is Alfahosting GmbH, Edmund-von-Lippmann-Str. 13–15, 06112 Halle (Saale), Germany, which processes this data on our behalf under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR). Server logs are kept only for a short period and then deleted; IP addresses in the logs are shortened.

We use no cookies, no analytics or tracking tools, and no social media plugins. Fonts and images are served from our own server, so your browser does not contact Google Fonts or other third parties when you visit.

3. The Readiness Check

Your answers (country, type of home, household, what you already have, budget) are processed only in your browser and are not sent to us. If you open your plan link later, the answers are read from the part of the link after the "#", which browsers do not send to the server. Answers about medical devices or medicines are never put in the link.

4. Email: your plan and the Sunday tip

If you enter your email address (and, if you like, your first name), we use it for what you asked for:

Double opt-in: you first receive an email asking you to confirm your address. Until you confirm, we send nothing else. To prove your consent, our email provider stores the time of sign-up and confirmation.

Along with your address we store your first name (if given), your country (if you did the check), the link to your plan, and where you signed up (website or check). We do not track whether you open our emails or click links (open and click tracking is switched off).

Unsubscribe any time with the link in every email, or by writing to us. We then delete your address, unless we have to keep a record of your opt-out so we don't email you again.

To protect the sign-up form against abuse, our server keeps a one-way hash of your IP address for a few minutes (no plain IP address, no email address). Nothing else from the form is stored on our server.

Our email provider

We use EmailOctopus, run by Three Hearts Digital Ltd, 86–90 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NE, United Kingdom, as our processor under a data processing agreement. According to EmailOctopus, your data is stored on Amazon Web Services servers in the EU (mainly Ireland). EmailOctopus uses further sub-processors, some of them in the USA; the current list is at emailoctopus.com/legal/subprocessors. Transfers to the UK are covered by the European Commission's adequacy decision for the United Kingdom (renewed in December 2025, Art. 45 GDPR). EmailOctopus' privacy policy: emailoctopus.com/legal/privacy.

5. Links to YouTube and shops

We link to our videos on YouTube but do not embed them, so YouTube receives no data from this website until you click a link. After the click, Google Ireland Ltd is responsible for what happens on YouTube.

Some product links are affiliate links (marked "Paid link"). If you click one, the shop (for example Amazon) can see that you came from us and pays us a commission if you buy. From the click on, the shop is responsible for your data under its own privacy policy. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

6. Writing to us

If you email us, we use your message and address to answer you (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and delete them when the matter is settled, unless the law requires us to keep them.

7. Your rights

You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict its processing, to data portability, and to object to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f). You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future. Just write to hello@wickandwatt.com.

You can also complain to a data protection authority, in particular the one where you live or work. The authority responsible for us is: Der Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Werderstraße 74a, 19055 Schwerin, Germany.

8. Good to know

You don't have to give us any data to use this website or the quick check. Without an email address we simply can't send you emails. We do not use automated decision-making or profiling.

If we add new features (for example product widgets or statistics), we will update this page first.
